There is nothing like painting on the spot and capturing the essence and light of the scene around you. There is something unique about urban landscape …an energy, a rhythm, a vitality …and I feel that when I’m painting. I hope to capture that in my plein air paintings and use that knowledge later, when I am working in my studio.

I am a visual artist, and painter. In my figurative paintings, I explore the vulnerability that is part of being human. Using found photos as starting reference, my paintings’ subject matter and storytelling concerns what we do with emotions - those underlying feelings that expose themselves – whether we want them to or not. My body of work investigates memory, relationships, ancestors, and community. Viewers often connect with familiar relationships and emotions in these paintings.

Destined to become modern heirlooms passed down through generations, my designs transcend time. While my body of work constantly evolves, it is never dictated by fleeting seasonal trends. Instead, my creations are wearable art – unique, handcrafted jewelry that combines fossils and fine gems, designed to be lived in and loved for a lifetime. This enduring quality is what separates true Jewelry as art from fast fashion.

I love color and movement. Everything stems from the layers of color. The result is a realistic abstraction of nature. As a lover of nature, birds, fish, insects, people or trees swaying in the breeze are the foundation of my work. My painting is based on intuition and trusting my feelings. My passion is expressed by using colors that mirror my soul.

My art has been called a Pulp Art meditation on acceptance, transformation and reconciliation and has been compared to Dali and recently Richard Watson. I invite you to stare at my paintings, ask questions, look deeper, to feel and I do this with the intention of love. In 2018, I was awakened by an emotional dissonance and turned to collage and paint to consider a more peaceful self.

My imagery usually starts with an observation of a material reality–objects of nature in space, such as plants, trees or landscape elements. These elements have a presence and create relationships. We embody the place or object and simultaneously perceive other possibilities of being and other time frames. There may be events of the past or events imagined. The created spaces may be inhabited. There is movement and change.

To me, flowers and luscious landscapes are the definition of beauty, etc. One of my grammar schoolteachers responded to our gripes of dislike of the story of Ivanhoe because of the long descriptions of landscapes. She explained as we grew older, we would appreciate and become fonder of landscapes/scenery. I remember her saying that today as vividly as when I was in her class. She was right!

In my artistic practice, I embark on a journey that explores the endless possibilities of mixed mediums and their transformative power. Through a harmonious fusion of diverse materials and processes, I seek to create a visual language that transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to delve into a realm where innovation and imagination intertwine. Each artwork I create is an intimate dialogue between materials, where the unpredictable encounters of various mediums give birth to unexpected narratives.

I create functional, decorative, and custom mosaics using recycled dishes and glass. My work begins with either an interesting dish or an object needing transformation. From there, the process is organic. Shards are put together like a puzzle, as I strive to maintain a good sense of color and balance. Commissions are the most rewarding as I turn shattered family relics into lasting works of art.

In her studio, she blends the old and the new, turning forgotten jewelry into vibrant, colorful designs. Each piece tells a “little story,” evoking a sense of magic, history, and nostalgia that invites viewers to reflect on the past with wonder. Her goal is to appeal to the child in everyone and take them on a journey down memory lane.

When painting, I work like an archeologist – excavating, scratching, uncovering, restoring. Forms and figuration appear and disappear as layers reveal and transform the hidden light. My love of Italian Renaissance and Baroque painting blossomed when living in Rome and I was privileged to be surrounded by these revolutionary works. Their influence aligned with the way my paintings evolve.

I have had the privilege to live a very eclectic, some would say, colorful life. It has provided me with many wonderful experiences, the opportunity to see many places and meet all kinds of people. The one common denominator I have found is the innate love and desire of beauty by all. Having lived long enough and seen certain unflattering aspects of life, I am committed to contributing beauty to the world.
